Biographie

Ismailou Baldé, born in 1964 in Labé (Guinea), has held a PhD in cultural and social anthropology from the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) since 2020. His current research focuses on transformations in the lifestyles of pastoralists and livestock practices among the Fulani in the Fouta Djallon (Guinea). He is also interested in local power dynamics, migration, and the understanding of concepts that shed light on social relationships, including that of freedom.

A specialist in museums and cultural heritage, Mr. Baldé has devoted more than twenty years of his career both to the practical preservation and enhancement of museum collections and built heritage, and to teaching and training young African heritage professionals in Guinea and in other subregional institutions. He has held notable positions such as Coordinator for Training and Research, and later Acting Director, at the École du Patrimoine Africain (School of African Heritage) in Benin. He is currently a Maître-Assistant accredited by CAMES in his field.

From 2022 to 2025, Dr. Baldé was successively promoted to Director General of the Centre National de Recherche sur le Patrimoine de Guinée (CENARPA-G) and of the Institut de Recherche sur le Patrimoine et en Linguistique Appliquée (IRPLA), institutions under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
