The Iziko South African Museum
Nomawethu HLAZO is the Curator of Social History (Archaeology) at Iziko Museums of South Africa in Cape Town. She holds a PhD in archaeology, focusing on southern African precolonial material culture and the curation, interpretation, and critical reassessment of collections within contemporary museums. A central focus of her work concerns the ethical and curatorial challenges surrounding ancestral remains, including questions of restitution, repatriation, and collaboration with descendant communities.
