Biographie

Dr. Tanja Pirsig-Marshall is the Deputy Director of the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur in Münster. Since 2022, she has headed the Department of Exhibitions, Collections, and Research there; prior to that, she served as Curator of Modern Art from 2010 to 2022. As a research associate and curator, she has worked at numerous museums in Germany and the UK. In this capacity, she has organized numerous exhibitions and authored publications on 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century art, as well as the catalog raisonné of the paintings and works on paper by Otto Mueller (1874–1930), of which she is the author. Since 2021, she has served as chair of the advisory board of the Coordination Office for Provenance Research  in North Rhine-Westphalia (Koordinationsstelle für Provenienzforschung NRW/KPF.NRW), a topic that is very close to her heart. In recent years, she oversaw the acquisition of a collection of lacquer art comprising approximately 1,700 objects, which was originally owned by the BASF-Gruppe. Since 2024, she has also been overseeing the acquisition and cataloging of a collection of ethnographic art from a missionary context (Forum der Völker, Werl).
