Biographie

Mohamed Amirou Conté initially pursued an academic path and a career in communication, which led him to head the Guinean Advertising Office and to found his own marketing agency. At the same time, he had developed a strong interest in the arts and culture since his student years, eventually taking on responsibilities in this field as well. In 1993, together with several university friends, he founded the cultural promotion agency “Festi-Kaloum,” which launched cultural events such as the Ronde des Poètes, Espace Culture, the Concours National de Percussions, the Festival International de Théâtre de Guinée, and the Biennale Internationale de Percussion.

He served as an advisor in cultural education, then as Secretary General of the National Chapter of Arterial Network (a network of African cultural actors), a member of the board of the African theatre exchange network “AFRICARTHEATRE,” a member of the Network of Cultural Actors (OCRE), and Secretary General of the Guinean Coalition for Cultural Diversity, which is part of the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity. He was also a member of the Communication and Culture Commission of the Steering Committee for Guinea’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper within the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and President of the Guinean Coalition for Cultural Diversity.

He subsequently held the positions of National Director for Arts and Leisure at the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Leisure in 2008, founder (together with UNICEF) and director of the Percussion Academy, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage. He also served for a time as Minister of Culture. On January 17, 2025, he was appointed Director of the National Museum of Guinea.
